Mundus French Toast

French toast made with Mundus French Toast Mix and browned in Mundus butter. Serve with berries, maple syrup, or Mundus Dairy-Free Whipped Cream.

Serves: 4
Makes: about 8 slices
Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 15–20 minutes

What you’ll need

  • ½ cup Mundus French Toast Mix (approximately 80 g)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) unsweetened, unflavored plant-based milk, plus more as needed
  • 8 slices sturdy bread, about ½–¾ inch thick
  • 2–3 tablespoons (28–42 g) Mundus butter, as needed for the pan
  • Fruit, maple syrup, jam, or Mundus Dairy-Free Whipped Cream, for serving
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon, optional

Make it

1. Mix the coating.

Whisk the French Toast Mix and milk in a shallow dish until smooth. Add cinnamon if using. Let stand for 3–5 minutes, then whisk again.

It should coat the bread in a thin layer. If it has become too thick to dip easily, add milk a tablespoon at a time.

2. Heat the pan.

Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add enough Mundus butter to lightly coat the cooking surface.

Keep the heat moderate; the mix contains sugar and can brown before the bread cooks through.

3. Dip the bread.

Dip each slice on both sides, then let the excess drip back into the dish.

Soft sandwich bread needs a quick dip. Sturdy, slightly stale bread can take about 10–15 seconds per side. Start with one slice and adjust the soaking time to your bread; it should be dampened but still hold together.

4. Cook.

Cook for approximately 3–4 minutes per side, until browned and the coating is cooked through.

Add a little butter between batches. If the pan collects dark residue, carefully wipe it out before continuing.

If the bread browns too quickly, lower the heat.

5. Serve.

Serve hot with your preferred toppings. To keep a batch warm, place cooked slices on a rack over a baking sheet in a 200°F oven while you finish the rest.

A few options

  • Berries: Serve with fresh berries or berries gently warmed in a saucepan.
  • Apple: Cook thin apple slices in Mundus butter until tender; add cinnamon if you like.
  • Orange: Add the finely grated zest of ½ orange to the coating.
  • Gluten-free bread: Use a sturdy gluten-free loaf and start with a quick dip. Confirm the current mix label and all toppings suit your needs.

The mix already contains sugar, vanilla, salt, and egg replacer. No additional eggs or egg replacer are needed.
